Food Halls of Europe: Harrods ranks among the best

There is something to be said for the big, beautiful food markets of Europe-I have posted before about sausages from Dallmyr in Munich and have fond memories  of the Old Market Hall of Helsinki which has reindeer jerky or shopping for olives in Obidos in Portugal.  I LOVE a good food market and Harrods is listed in almost every blog as one of the best.  In addition, Harrods Food Hall is included as one of the 1000 Things to Eat- the premise being that if it can be eaten, it can be found at Harrods.  I do think that is a point-with a fresh produce hall, a chocolate hall, and a bakery hall you literally can buy almost anything your heart could desire.  Tara and I went after a fairly hectic day and the hall was a bit too hectic for us.  I was astounded by the shear volume of choices-there were close to 30 pasta options that they would cook to order, there were 30 Indian food options, they had every possible type of baked product.  The Hall is visually stunning-almost overwhelmingly so and there are 20,000 of your closest friends all trying to look or purchase food at the same time as you.  The chocolate hall had very possible brand of luxury chocolate a person could want. They have a champagne and oyster bar with one of the largest selections I have very seen. I wanted to eat it all and in some ways the 1000 of choices rendered me immobilized.  We ultimately went to a local pub and had really bad food instead of trying to select one of the amazing things Harrod’s had to offer. Bad choice but sometimes you have to just do what you have to do.
