Pinot Tasting Menu w/French Summer Fare
Recently I found a really interesting Pinot Noir tasing menu on line and copied it to the best of my ability. I ordered the wine from Total Wine in Temecula-quite an amazing place-and then searched for recipes I thought would go with the menu. Ultimately, I ended up with five really simple courses:
- Sautéed morel mushrooms in cream on toast (a 1000 Thing food) with champagne;
- Frisee salad with poached eggs and lardon (another 1000 Thing Food) with two light pinots;
- Heirloom tomato and mustard tart which should have been served with a medium set of pinots but we hadn’t gotten far enough along on the wine so we skipped drinking those two;
- Cold beef and beet salad with two heavier pinots; and
- Orange custard with whipped cream and candied orange peel with a final pinot that seemed to go well with dessert. I am including the menu so you can see more detail on the food and the wines.
What did we learn? I liked the French pinots more than the domestic. I love whipping cream. Tomato tart which has only 4 ingredients is amazing. Beet and beef do go together. I love my friends.
