Semlor

Donna had a birthday and I had to make sure she got something from the 1000 foods list to eat for her B-day. I ordered Semlor from the Royal Swedish Bakery in Poway. A semlor you ask? Well it is a bun typically only eaten on Fat Tuesday which is the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday which begins Lent. This bun is a true bread bun complete with caraway seeds that has the top cut off and then is smeared with mazipan, filled with cardamon infused whipped cream, has the top put back on and is then dusted with powdered sugar. It is shockingly NOT overly sweet and the flavor combo works even if it is a bit strange. Happy Fat Tuesday, Donna….
