Dim Sim Dumplings and Anzac Biscuits

Steamed & Fried Dim Sim

My friend Shelley came to visit this past weekend and Elena was able to come home, too, so I broke out the Dim Sim (not to be confused with Dim Sum). Dim Sim is an Australian version that, according to legend, was misspelled on a menu some place and then became an Australian adapted dim sum recipe. The result is a thicker dough, bigger dumpling and entirely different fillings. We had pork and cabbage and tried them both fried and steamed.  I ordered from the Australian Food Shop and since I was having dim sim shipped, ordered some Anzac Biscuits (cookies) as well.  Anzac biscuits are a coconut/oatmeal concoction that were said to have been eaten during WWI by the troops in Gallipoli.  Anzac biscuits are one of Mimi Sheraton’s 1000 Foods to eat before you Die and Dim Sim are #13 on the CNN Dumpling list.  Both are really good.  I had had another version of Anzac biscuits that were crisper but I loved this chewier version…
