Termini Brother’s Cannoli

I think we all know the cannoli but all cannolis are not created equal. One of my most favorite was brought to me by my niece, Niki, from Termini Brothers in Philadelphia. Cannolis, of course, are a 1000 thing which explains why a person should eat 1000 of them.

Sfogliatelle

One of Niki’s favorite spots is the Italian Market in south Phili. So it wasn’t a stretch that when Niki came to visit, we would to find a great Italian Market for Breakfast. We found Solunto Restaurant and Bakery in Little Italy. We had breakfast (I had one of the very best Eggs Benedict on Italian Toast). We also had another of the 1000 Things called Sfogliatelle. This is a pastry that looks a bit like a clam shell with what seems to be a ricotta filling. From my reading I have learned some places like to put in more of the cheese than others. I liked Solunto’s as they were moist but not dripping.

schillerlocken (or maybe another name?)

We tried a few of the other items-a whipped cream and strawberry filled pastry horn which was a bit like s Schillerlocken which is another 1000 things from Germany named after the poet Frederick Schiller. I asked the name of these to see if this might be the same name but they didn’t know so I am calling it a Schillerlocken unless someone else has a suggestion. We also purchased a big box of Italian cookies to take with us. I do sort of thing one Italian cookie is much like the next but a box of them is never a bad idea…
