I discovered the Washington Street  Mission Hills Lucha Libre Taco Shop in 2012.  It quickly became my “go-to” place to take out of town guests and my stop-off spot when going or coming from the Airport.  Their specialty, I had learned, was their California Surf and Turf Burrito.  Surf and Turf you most likely can get but the California part means that French fries are added to the mix.  While they make a delicious burrito, the best part of Lucha Libre is their salsa bar. They have a salsa bar that is unrivaled.  The best option (of the many options) is a spicy chopped fruit chutney-type salsa that I have not seen anywhere else.  The second best thing is their decor. Where else do you eat Tacos surrounded by Mexican Wresting paraphernalia?  On several occasions we have made a reservation to sit in the Champions booth. This is the only table with table service.  It is also located in a great spot with a commanding view of the place.  In 2012 we took my Girl Scout troop and ate in the champion’s booth and last year took Elena’s boyfriend to the University Avenue/North Park Champs Ring which not only has a ring but also uses an old tape recorder that they take to your table and play Queens’ “We are the Champions”.  I have not yet made it to the Carlsbad location but am certain that is in my future as they have a Champs Table.  Champions ring/table or booth aside, this is a great place for a burrito and make sure to not forget the salsa.
