What can you use as a hand lotion, chewing gum, varnish remover AND use in a cocktail? Mastiha

Mastiha & Prosecco

There is a tree sap that is used in Greece to produce hand lotion, chewing gum, varnish remover and cocktails. Since Mimi Sheraton says this is one of the 1000 things, i figured it must be worth a try. Mastiha is the the crystallized sap of the pistachio tree which falls to the ground and is then harvested to produce such a wide range of products. Two stores in the US carry this product so I ordered a bottle to make cocktails. We combined it with raspberries and prosecco to make a passable cocktail. Other recipes exist on the internet so if trying mastiha seems important to anyone else, order a bottle of Skinos Mastiha and try one of them. What is interesting is that that liquid smells just like pine needles but the taste is not strong. I think that this is one of those things that is listed by Mimi not because it is so delicious but because it is so typically Greek. Would I recommend it? No.
