Pamir Kebab House: Ashak & Mantu Dumplings

Mantu

When I read the CNN article that listed the 30 dumplings from around the world to eat, Ashak and Mantu were not on the list. I do get this, the article was encouraging a people to travel to try the dumplings. Somehow, I figure not too many people will go to Afghanistan to have dumplings. Maybe some day as Afghanistan is on my short list of places to go.

Ashak

Until Afghanistan becomes a popular tourist destination, the dumplings can be had at Pamir Kebab House in Rancho Bernardo. In addition to the delicious meat-filled Mantu or the scallion-filled Ashak, their kebabs are tender and well-seasoned. They come with a vinegary-spicy dip and come with rice and salad. I think the best part of Pamir might not even be the food because the owner is one of the friendliest people you will ever meet. Her smile lights up a room and her food lights up my stomach. Great combo…
