Today I tried my first batch of green walnut wine  or Vin de Noix.  It is a specialty of the Dorgogne region of France which is an area in the middle of the country-right above the south of France.  This is another of the cocktail recipes from my French cocktail book.  Red wine and green walnuts and spices sit together in the dark for at least three months-the result is more of a mulled wine/sangria taste more than a true red wine.  The real interesting about this is that you can only make during green walnut season which is a very short three-week period that takes place the end of June and beginning of July.  They are hard to find in California but once again, all things can be ordered online and once I received them, I made two batches.  Batch one was really good.

I brought out batch one at a get-together of my “pod” at the Clopine’s house. It was a special event as Jay’s brother and sister-in-law were visiting and we celebrated the life of their mother, Kay Trischman who has recently passed.  We all knew Kay and my mother was a particular fan of hers when our combined families used to get together.  We will miss you, Kay….
