Lourdes mexican food: Eating chicken soup in Escondido

Lourdes’s chicken soup was one of those places/food legends I kept hearing about when we first moved to San Diego.  CBS8 ran a story that peaked my interest.  I went the first time and had the chicken enchiladas which were, absolutely delicious.  Yet, I wasn’t a convert. I told my other friend Sandy (not the Sandy of the ceviche fame) that while I like the enchiladas very much I just couldn’t figure out why I would drive so far for enchiladas. She looked at me incredulously and asked me why I hadn’t ordered the chicken soup. I am not much of a soup fan and find chicken soup fairly boring.  The next week she drug me to Lourdes’s and made me eat a bowl of soup and I have been converted ever since. We jokingly say it can cure cancer and if it can’t is most certainly can make you feel better.  Anyone in my family gets sick, they ask for Lourdes’s.  We do eat the soup while healthy as well. It is now my tradition to take all new employees in my department to eat Lourdes’s Chicken Soup. How do I eat it? I get all of the four choices: Rice, Cilantro, avocado and onion and then I dump in one full take out sized container of the HOT sauce. I choose flour tortillas but that is just my preference.  It is one really delicious bowl of chicken soup.

To feel safe and warm on a cold we night, al you really need is soup.
