Rugelach (why am I not eating them NOW?)

I hope that no one who reads does not know what a rugelach is. I hope everyone who reads this has eaten at least as many as there are days in the year. I am ashamed to admit that I have eaten by the bag-full on the streets of Jerusalem.  I have bought them by the bags at Miltons.  There have been a few boxes eaten from DZ Akins that have entered my house and, ultimately, my stomach. When I last went to Edmonton, Tara took me to a bakery in Edmonton and I ate them, again by the bag-full.  I guess you get the theme.  Mimi has them on the 1000 Foods to Eat Before you Die. I take it further.  Life is just not worth living it if doesn’t include a bag of rugelach.  Not know what these are?  They are a cream-cheese laced dough that is then filled with a variety of fruit or chocolate fillings.  My favorite type? The one in my mouth.  Each and everyone of them are my favorite.

Since this is a pretty short post. I did a bit of digging to find out that while these little cream-cheese laced treats can be eaten anytime, the most popular times in Jewish culture are to eat them at Hanukah or Shavuot. Shavuot this year begins on May 28thth so I am posting in honor of Shavuot.  Don’t let this stop you, buy a bag and enjoy.  Good news, Milton & DZ Akins have them for take out….
